An unheralded rising star in the Port
trade that gains more popularity with each ensuing vintage. The Portal ’03
exhibits aromas of blueberry, anise, herbs and mint notes, with a scent of
black pepper. This is a big and balanced full-bodied beauty with a soft
approach and sweet ripe plum and chewy blueberry fruit, with lots of
acidity. It’s an easy-to-enjoy wine and all of a sudden waves of palate
crushing tannins roll in and take over, followed by an exceptionally long
finish. This will age for decades. Keep your eyes on Quinta do Portal as
they continue to make consistent, age worthy wines with 2003 their best ever
Vintage Port. 3,880 cases of 6 bottles, 5,500 of 375ml bottles and 300
magnums produced. 95+ Points Roy Hersh – www.fortheloveofport.com -- August 2005
Better known for its table wines, this
Port is a great success for Portal. It is dark, dry and very firmly tannic.
There is a powerhouse of fruit, but at this stage - and for several years -
that fruit will be buried under a layer of strength and structure. A great
wine for maturing. |

Our 2000 results from a blend of wines,
whose grapes came from the old vines of Quinta dos Muros, vinified in stone
lagares and in our stainless-steel fermentation vats. In the lagares we have
achieved the rusticity and an excellent structure and have complemented this
with the aromatic finesse attained in the stainless steel vats. It's dark ruby in color with predominance of some floral aromas. Full-bodied, it has lively but round tannins and a lush, lingering finish. "Many people are still not aware of this Shipper and unfortunately that includes most Americans. The 1995 Quinta do Portal was a simply pleasant wine, but I thoroughly enjoyed the deeply extracted 1997 vintage Porto. This was the vintage which provided a view into the portal or crystal ball that showed a very bright future for this house. The 2000 steps into the limelight and stands proud. Dark ruby that just falls short of opacity; with very pretty floral aromas of rose petals and violets. Full-bodied, depicting distinctive raspberry and grenadine flavors with lively, round tannins and possessing a lush, lingering finish. Very enjoyable! Built to last for decades." 94 Roy Hersh - www.wineloverspage.com, 07/2002 |

The 1999 was produced in our traditional
lagares and also in stainless steel tanks. The grapes used in the production
of the 1999 were picked on the 16th and 17th September and also on the 23rd
and 24th September. The wine has a dense and vibrant red color and the aroma
is reminiscent of cane-sugar and rum from the Caribbean islands. In the
mouth it's soft and buttery with flavors of dark cherries and plums. The
finish is fresh and leaves a taste of very ripe dark grape skins. "I have tasted well over a dozen Ports from this vintage and this is right atop the heap along with the Niepoort Secundum '99. Very approachable now, the '99 Quinta do Portal is the wine to drink while their 2000 vintage Port ages in the cellar. It shows excellent overall balance and structure for a wine from an unheralded vintage." Roy Hersh - www.wineloverspage.com, March 2003 |

In the creation of this excellent dessert
wine we had in consideration the unique characteristics that the barrel
ageing offers to the fortified wines of the Douro. The result was a wine
with great complexity, but still very elegant, that developed a panoply of
noble aromas very characteristic of the Moscatel Galego variety. It should
be served between 15º-17ºC with your favorite sweet desserts. |

This wine is unique. It is a blend of our
choicest "lots" of deep red wood aged ports of four to six years lovingly
tended by winemaker Paulo Coutinho and master blender Jeremy Bull together
with other "lots" of very fine older ports. The result is a highly
distinctive round fruity elegant after dinner Port of great complexity. "Sweet dried fruit characters with an elegant lick of vanilla and a long, spicy finish." Wine Magazine, November 2001 |

This Port is a blend from the best Tawny Ports from Quinta do Portal which
have aged in oak casks for eight years. The bouquet can best be described as
producing aromas of dried fruit, raisins and dry figs, toasted coffee beans,
spices. All these flavors give this wine its distinctive character. On the
palate, this wine is very smooth and well-balanced. An elegant wine with
very persistent aromas. A soft, easy tawny that represents a solid value. Portal's Reserve displays earthy, spicy characteristics and a warming finish. Cinnamon and white pepper notes add complexity. 87 pts J.C. – Wine Enthusiast – November 2003 |

Grande Reserva 2006 Douro Red |
In 2006 our Grande Reserva isa blend of
50% Touriga Nacional, 35% Tinta Roriz and 15% Touriga Franca. The grapes
were hand-picked between the 15th and 25th September and fermentation in
stainless steel followed at a controlled temperature between 26 and 28ºC. The wine was then aged for 14 months in new French oak barriques where it attained dark cherry, blackberry and red plum aromas and flavors. 94 - Vibrant, muscular touriga nacional powers this wine when it's first poured, with the variety's purple, violet-tinged fruit making up half of the blend. The characters of roriz and touriga franca, the other varieties, grow more prominent with air, adding complexity and sunny warmth to the fruit. The tannins are sturdy, more mineral than astringent, the acidity equally potent. All primary at the moment, this needs a few years to mellow. To serve with braised duck.
